Preventing Shed Thefts – Simple Steps |
|
May 11, 2005 By: David Thompson Preventing Shed Thefts – Simple StepsMany sheds and garage doors or windows are not well maintained, making theft easier. These same owners often store expensive garden and sport equipment such as bicycles in the garage or shed and place a small lock on the doors. There are a few simple things that garage and shed owners can help in preventing shed thefts. There are two primary items to focus on in garages and sheds. The first is to ensure that the garage or shed door is strong and properly locked. The second is to ensure that the walls and windows have not become weak and easily broken into. Garages and sheds that are locked will help in preventing shed theft. These comments also apply to garage doors as well. A strong lock on the door can prevent burglary, as well as checking that the hinges are properly secured to avoid breaking the hinges. Many garage doors or shed doors are not strong enough to prevent burglary, so you may want to take some extra steps to ensure that they are properly secured and difficult for any thief to open the door. All the work of ensuring that the door is strong will be useless if the windows and the walls are not in good repair. A mesh to cover the windows from the inside will prevent buglary, and repair of any rotten wood will make it more difficult for anyone to break in. Mark all of your items with a marking pencil as well to enable proper identification in case a theft occurs. About
