Tool Shed Tips – Security Hints

Many consumers would be surprised at the value of all the items that they store in their sheds and garages. Once you add up all of the items and their value, consumers may wonder why they have not taken more steps to ensure the security of the shed. There are a number of tool shed tips that consumers can follow to ensure that the tools and garden equipment are safe in their sheds and garages. The first thing is to ensure that the shed door is securely locked and the garage door cannot be lifted off its hinges.

Another tool shed tip is to check any windows to ensure that they are secure and not rotten. Consumers can also add wire mesh covering over the inside of the windows to obstruct entry should the glass be broken in some manner. Any boards or wood siding that is rotten should be replaced to prevent entry through a sidewall. Simple steps like these will not prevent a determined thief from entry into your garage or shed, however it will definitely slow them down. Thieves look for the path of least resistance and will avoid a secure shed or garage.

Consumers should always maintain an inventory of what tools and material is kept in the garage as well as the garden shed. Your insurance company will require a complete inventory of any stolen items along with a description. Having an up to date inventory will also make it simpler for you to keep track of what should be in the shed. If some of your items are more expensive and you are concerned about their safety, move these tools to more secure areas such as a locked garages or sheds.
