Garden Shed Insurance – Additional Coverage

Many insurance policies will provide normal coverage for out buildings, sheds and detached garages. These policies will also cover the contents of the shed and the garage, however there are usually limitations in the amount of coverage that you have and there will be a an excess or deductible amount before you can actually make a claim should something be stolen. Garden shed insurance is something everyone should consider. However, consumers need to pay attention to the details to ensure that they are adequately covered.

When you add up all of the items in your garage or shed, you may be surprised at the amount of money you have invested. A hundred dollars each for some of the tools, perhaps a lawn mower at two or three hundred dollars will add up quickly. If the thief only takes what he or she can carry, not only are you missing the tool, it is unlikely that you can make a claim since your deductible will usually be $500 or higher as according to the policy. When you purchase garden sheds insurance, get the policy you need.

Consumers can also protect the items in garages and sheds by ensuring that they have a full and complete inventory of the items stored in the garage and shed, with the value of each recorded as well. Taking pictures of any expensive items is also a good idea. Both of these suggestions make it much easier to deal with the insurance company adjuster if you unfortunately have an insurance claim for something stolen out of your shed or garage. Always make sure doors, walls, and windows are well secured.
