Garden Shed Security – Basic Tips

Garden shed security is becoming an important issue for homeowners and police as more reports are coming in every year of garden sheds and garages that have been broken into. Vandalism and theft is increasing, and police are urging homeowners to implement additional security to secure their garden equipment and sporting goods that are stored in both sheds and garages. Insurance policies usually have a deductible, so many things like lawn mowers and sporting goods are not covered. Homeowners have to deal with the lost items, and the requirement to implement additional security after it is too late!

Implementing garden sheds security is not difficult, nor is it expensive. In some cases, proper maintenance is all you need for a secure shed. All walls and doors to your shed or your garage should be solid and not easily broken. Doors to be secured should have a solid lock that is only opened with a key. Hinges should be the type that cannot be pried off from the outside, and windows should have a wire mesh secured from the inside. All of these security steps are relatively easy to-do and will deter a thief from stealing your things from the shed.

Many police forces also recommend a security alarm system to be installed to sheds and garages to add that additional level of security and warning. If your garage is attached to the house with an inside entrance from the garage to the house, it is even more important to have the garage secured with an alarm system to secure your home. Even alarm systems can be inexpensive compared to a break in.
